Steps to Build Your Safety Plan

1. Identify Safe Places

Determine specific locations in your home where there are no weapons and multiple exits, or safe spaces in your community.

2. Establish Code Words

Create a secret phrase or signal for children, neighbors, or friends to let them know when they need to call for emergency help.

3. Pack a Go-Bag

Keep essential items hidden in a safe place or with a trusted friend so you can leave quickly if an emergency situation arises.

Emergency Essentials Checklist

  • Identification (Driver's license, Passport, Birth certificates)
  • Financial records (Recent bank statements, Pay stubs)
  • Legal papers (Restraining orders, Lease agreements, Marriage certificate)
  • Medical information (Insurance cards, Prescription list)
  • Ownership titles (Car title, Deeds)

  • Spare keys (House, Car, Safe deposit box)
  • Emergency cash and credit cards
  • Prescription medications (At least a week's supply)
  • Communication (Safe phone, Charger, List of emergency contacts)
