Coercive Control Frameworks
These essential tools for professionals and advocates are designed to help identify, assess, and combat coercive control across different contexts. Below you will find our two downloadable frameworks providing research-based insights for practitioners.
Intimate Partner Abuse and Coercive Control Framework
This professional resource outlines systematic patterns of coercive control within intimate settings, specifically examining tactics like degradation and humiliation. It equips practitioners with actionable strategies for clinical assessment, thorough documentation, and the implementation of safety-focused responses for survivors.

Specialized Youth Coercive Control Guidelines
This framework examines the profound impact of coercive control on children and youth, focusing specifically on the multifaceted nature of degradation tactics. It provides practitioners with trauma-informed tools to observe behavioral shifts, document psychological injury, and establish robust safety plans. Within these guidelines, degradation is addressed as a dual strategy of harm: first, the direct degradation of the child through persistent shaming, belittling, and humiliation designed to erode their inherent sense of self-worth; and second, the systematic degradation of the safe parent–child relationship. This latter tactic involves the abuser badmouthing, blaming, or shaming the protective parent in front of the child to deliberately damage trust and secure attachment. By identifying these calculated attempts to foster dependence and fear, this framework equips advocates to intervene in systemic psychological harm and restore the child’s path to stability.
